We are currently seeking two experienced Engineering Superintendents (Mechanical or Electrical) to join our Groceries Division based in Randfontein.
As an Engineering Superintendent, you will play a vital leadership role in managing engineering operations, ensuring equipment efficiency, overseeing maintenance processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure operational excellence, safety compliance, and the delivery of key production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance and Equipment Reliability
- Oversee the maintenance and reliability of all equipment and machinery to minimize downtime and ensure optimal plant performance.
- Implement and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Ensure prompt and effective responses to equipment breakdowns, minimizing disruptions to production.
2. Team Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of engineers, maintenance personnel, and technical staff across three shifts.
- Train, mentor, and develop the technical expertise of the team to improve performance and reduce downtime.
- Oversee day-to-day activities, assign tasks, and ensure objectives align with operational needs.
- Manage all aspects of human resources (HR) and industrial relations (IR) within the engineering team.
3. Process Optimization
- Identify and implement opportunities for improving plant operations, equipment efficiency, and energy consumption.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with production teams to optimize production line performance and reduce operational costs.
4. Project Management
- Manage capital projects, including new equipment installations and plant expansions.
- Develop project schedules, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Collaborate with contractors and external stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
5. Budgets and Cost Control
- Develop and manage the engineering department’s budget, including maintenance costs and capital expenditures.
- Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures without compromising safety or performance.
- Authorize store requisitions and ensure accurate financial tracking of maintenance spending.
6. Planned Maintenance
- Plan and manage all planned maintenance and preventive schedules in collaboration with the asset care team.
- Ensure materials and supplies are ordered and available for maintenance tasks.
- Oversee weekend mechanical maintenance and prioritize tasks to minimize downtime.
7. Repairs and Renovations
- Coordinate renovation projects and major construction work within the facility.
- Supervise contract work, ensuring quality standards and timely completion.
8. Safety and Compliance
- Ensure engineering operations adhere to safety regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and investigations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance among the engineering team.
9. Stock Control
- Manage the distribution of equipment and supplies to artisans.
- Verify engineering stock levels bi-annually and recommend corrections where necessary.
10. Governance and Reporting
- Ensure adherence to RCL FOODS’ ethical standards and corporate governance policies.
- Report and escalate areas of non-compliance while implementing corrective actions.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Advanced qualifications in FMCG operations or maintenance management are advantageous.
- GCC (Government Certificate of Competency) completed or in progress is a plus.
- Proven experience managing large-scale engineering operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage cross-functional collaboration.
