Job Overview
AECI, a leading company in the chemical and industrial manufacturing sector, is seeking a Learner Process Shift Technician to join our team at our Merebank, KwaZulu-Natal site. Under the supervision of the Plant Manager/Senior Technician, the successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing precipitated carbonate and other related products for use by the host paper mill. This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety & Compliance: Participate in the site’s Safety Programme to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Plant Operations: Operate plant field equipment and manage operations via a computer-controlled workstation.
- Maintenance & Support: Direct maintenance teams and contractors for maintenance activities.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct SPC analysis, test raw materials and products, and perform lab instrument calibrations in accordance with local procedures.
- Operational Excellence: Contribute to the company’s Operations Excellence Programme, including 5S methodology, standard work, and lean improvements.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Shift Work & Callout Response: Work on a rotating shift basis and provide after-hours plant support when needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Preferable qualification: Qualified electrician or electrical-related field.
- Other tertiary qualifications in chemical or mechanical engineering may also be considered.
- Up to 1 year of relevant work experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Knowledge of industrial safety protocols and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with computerized plant operation systems.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and respond to after-hours callouts.
