Introduction:
The Department of Employment and Labour invites applications from qualified, passionate, and driven individuals to fill the position of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Inspector based in Zastron, Free State. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with a strong technical background and a commitment to workplace health and safety compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Senior Certificate (Matric)
- A recognized 3-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6 or 7) in one of the following:
Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic, or Chemical Engineering; Chemistry; Construction; Occupational Hygiene; or Environmental Health - A valid driver’s license
- In-depth knowledge of the following legislation:
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and related regulations
- Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA)
- Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA)
- South African National Standards (SANS)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent inspections to ensure compliance with the OHS Act and relevant standards
- Investigate incidents and complaints and enforce legislation as necessary, including appearing in court as a state witness
- Confirm compliance with UIA and COIDA during inspections
- Plan and execute proactive inspections and advocacy campaigns on labour legislation
- Compile and submit detailed reports on inspection findings and regional performance
- Contribute to the development and analysis of regional inspection plans

- Sound understanding of health and safety legislation
- Analytical and investigative skills
- Report writing and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
