About the Role:
Abbott’s Core Diagnostics Division in Johannesburg is seeking a motivated and driven Field Service Engineer Intern. This internship is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain practical experience in a global healthcare company and develop skills in technical support, diagnostics, and customer service.

As a Field Service Engineer Intern, you will assist in providing high-level technical support for Abbott’s diagnostic equipment used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics. You will work closely with experienced engineers and service teams to install, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform system installations, repairs, and preventative maintenance at customer sites.
  • Assist in implementing product upgrades and enhancements for assigned equipment.
  • Support technical troubleshooting for defined service interventions.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to provide client support.
  • Deliver proactive service and maintenance to improve product performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in training and development sessions to build technical expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed university degree (National Diploma or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Mechatronics, Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, or a related discipline.
  • Valid South African driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Strong interest in diagnostic equipment, field service, and healthcare innovation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel within Gauteng and surrounding regions.
  • Must be available to start immediately.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • No formal work experience is required. However, completion of in-service training in a relevant technical or healthcare environment will be an advantage.
  • Based in Gauteng province and familiar with the local healthcare sector.
