Eskom invites suitably qualified and passionate graduates to apply for its Engineers in Training (EIT) Programme within the Distribution Division, Eastern Cape region. This is an exceptional opportunity to develop critical engineering expertise within one of South Africa’s most vital and technically complex sectors—electricity distribution.

About the Programme

The Engineers in Training (EIT) programme is designed to accelerate the professional development of newly qualified engineers. Participants will receive structured training and exposure to real-world engineering challenges that support the strategic and operational needs of Eskom’s Maintenance & Operations department. The programme also aligns with Eskom’s commitment to sustainability, technical excellence, and transformation.

This is a fixed-term training opportunity based in various locations across the Eastern Cape.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African Citizen.
  • Hold a BTech / BSc / BEng in one of the following disciplines:
    • Heavy Current Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronic Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Mechatronics
    • Civil Engineering

No prior work experience is required; however, academic excellence, enthusiasm for learning, and a drive to grow professionally within a fast-paced environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities

This programme offers on-the-job training and learning support. Although no direct responsibilities are assigned initially, Engineers in Training will:

  • Work alongside experienced engineers
  • Be involved in technical projects and field assignments
  • Participate in learning interventions, safety courses, and performance reviews
  • Gain exposure to Eskom’s distribution infrastructure and systems
