The Opportunity

Are you a recent engineering graduate ready to transform your potential into performance? Our Engineer in Training Program is designed to fast-track your career development through hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional growth. Based on the proven 70:20:10 learning model, you’ll spend 70% of your time on practical work, 20% learning from experienced professionals, and 10% in structured classroom training.

This isn’t just another graduate program. You’ll be integrated into real projects from day one, working alongside industry experts who are shaping the future of technology. You’ll contribute to strategic initiatives, develop both technical and soft skills, and build a network that will support your entire career.

What You’ll Do

Depending on your engineering discipline, you’ll gain specialized exposure across various technical areas:

Electrical Engineers will work with switchgear testing, primary and secondary systems, modular designs, and commissioning processes, while developing expertise in electrical and mechanical design.

Mechanical Engineers will explore motor design, drafting, and the intricate electrical and mechanical systems that power industrial equipment.

Control & Instrumentation Engineers will engage with control systems, field instrumentation, actuators, and DCS design and commissioning.

Industrial Engineers will drive operational excellence through time studies, process improvement initiatives, and factory optimization.

Computer Engineers will contribute to ABB Ability and our Fourth Industrial Revolution initiatives, working across business units to advance digital transformation.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking ambitious graduates who demonstrate:

  • A completed BSc, BTech, or BEng degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial, or Computer Engineering
  • Academic excellence with a minimum 65% average throughout your studies
  • No more than two years of work experience
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Leadership potential and a genuine desire to learn
  • South African citizenship
