Graduate Internship & Work Integrated Learning Opportunities

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs invites unemployed graduates to apply for Graduate Internship (24 months) and Work Integrated Learning (12-18 months) programmes across various fields. Applications close January 28, 2026. Preference given to people with disabilities.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, through the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, is proud to announce exciting opportunities for unemployed graduates to gain valuable work experience and develop their professional skills.

Programme Overview

We are offering two distinct development programmes designed to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and practical workplace experience:

1. Graduate Internship Programme (24 months)
A comprehensive 24-month internship opportunity across 11 specialized fields, with a total of 66 positions available. This programme is designed for graduates who have completed 3 or 4-year qualifications from recognized tertiary institutions.

2. Work Integrated Learning Programme (12-18 months)
A focused WIL programme offering practical experience in three key areas, with 8 positions available for candidates registered with recognized institutions of higher learning.

Available Fields

Opportunities exist in diverse and dynamic areas including Public Management, Accounting, Computer Science, LLB/Anthropology, Human Resource Management, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering (Electrical/Civil/Quantity Surveying), Disaster Management, Town Planning, Visual Communication, and Logistics Management.

Key Requirements

Applicants must be residents of KwaZulu-Natal, with proof of residence required (Ward Councillor letter, Municipal Bill, or Affidavit). For the Graduate Internship Programme, candidates must be unemployed and not have previously participated in any government internship programme. WIL applicants must be registered with a recognized institution and have never participated in a WIL programme from any government department.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form (81/971431 effective January 1, 2021), clearly indicating the reference number. Required documents include a detailed CV, certified copies of IDs and qualifications, and an affidavit confirming non-participation in previous internship programmes.

Applications can be submitted physically to Private Bag X 9078, Pietermaritzburg 3200 (Attention: The Head of the Department), hand-delivered to the Natalia Building, 330 Langalibalele Street, Pietermaritzburg, or submitted to the nearest COGTA District Offices.
