Gibela, in partnership with Alstom, is offering an exciting opportunity for recently qualified graduates to join its Graduate Programme: Test Technician. This programme is designed for ambitious and technically minded individuals who are eager to build a strong foundation in the rail manufacturing and transport engineering industry. As Africa’s largest train manufacturing and passenger train maintenance company, Gibela plays a critical role in revitalising South Africa’s commuter rail system and contributing to socio-economic development through innovation and skills development.
The 12-month graduate programme provides structured workplace exposure, hands-on technical training, and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field of Testing and Commissioning. Successful candidates will rotate through different teams and functions, gaining practical experience in a high-performance manufacturing environment while contributing to real projects that impact national transport infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas
Participants will be exposed to a wide range of technical and professional development areas, including:
- Testing execution and technical support on rail systems and components
- Quality assurance, safety standards, and compliance procedures
- Documentation, reporting, and configuration control
- Equipment usage, maintenance, and care
- Team collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives
- Product preservation and adherence to engineering standards
- Escalation and monitoring of supplier-related technical issues
- Development of both technical and non-technical workplace skills

Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- B-Tech / Advanced Diploma / BEngTech in Electrical Engineering will be advantageous
- No prior work experience required
- South African citizen aged between 18 and 35 years
- Proficient in English communication (written and verbal)
- Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office applications
