Transnet Corporate Centre | Esselenpark, South Africa | 12-Month Learnership | Ref: req4451
Are you a University of Technology student looking to bridge the gap between your studies and the working world? Transnet Corporate Centre invites motivated and driven B Eng Tech students to apply for our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme — a structured, 12-month opportunity designed to fast-track your transition from the classroom to a thriving engineering career.
About the Programme
At Transnet, we believe that great engineers are built through experience, not just education. Our Work Integrated Technical Learner programme places you at the heart of one of South Africa’s most important state-owned enterprises, giving you the chance to apply your academic knowledge in a real, dynamic, and fast-paced environment. Under the guidance of seasoned professionals, you will gain exposure to industry-specific projects, operational processes, and business functions that will sharpen your skills and significantly enhance your employability.
This is more than an internship. It is a 12-month immersive experience built to develop the next generation of South African engineering talent.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will be embedded within a working department, contributing meaningfully from day one. Expect to assist with live projects, perform operational tasks under supervision, support administrative and reporting functions, and participate in workshops and mentorship sessions. You will shadow experienced engineers, engage in problem-solving exercises, conduct market research and data analysis, and prepare professional reports and presentations using MS Office tools. You will also play an active role in process improvement initiatives, learning how large-scale organisations operate from the inside out.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking B Eng Tech students (S4/S5 level) from a recognised University of Technology who have completed all theoretical subjects in Electronics or Industrial Engineering. You must be a South African citizen, and preference will be given to candidates who fall within the South African Youth category (under 35 years of age) as well as People with Disability.
To apply, you will need to submit a recent letter of confirmation from your institution, a certified copy of your Matric certificate, your academic record, and a certified copy of your ID. Please note that no bursary obligations are attached to this programme.
