These opportunities include bursaries, graduate development programmes, technician training, and youth empowerment initiatives, providing financial support, structured development, mentorship, and career exposure to prepare students and graduates for successful careers in industry and research.
Available Programmes:
- Mainstream Bursary Programme – Supports undergraduate (B.Sc., B.Eng., B.Eng.Tech.) and selected postgraduate (M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D.) studies in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, Mechanical, Mining, and Metallurgy disciplines, as well as Data Science and Geology. These bursaries include full financial support and developmental assistance, with potential employment through Sasol’s Graduate Development Programme upon completion.
- Sasol Foundation Bursaries – Provides bursaries for both STEM and selected non-STEM degrees. Priority is given to disciplines aligned with future capabilities, including the Green Economy, Digitalisation, Data Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Medical Sciences, Construction, and Manufacturing. Non-STEM bursaries are reserved for qualifying students from Sasol fence-line communities, children of Sasol employees, or shareholders.
- Sasol Mining Bursaries – Targeted at students from fence-line communities, supporting studies in Mining, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, Geology (Hons.), and Mine Surveying (University of Johannesburg only).
- Energy Bursary Programme – Green Hydrogen Project – Supports youth in the Northern Cape pursuing STEM degrees aligned to Sasol’s green hydrogen initiatives, including Engineering, Chemical Sciences, Data Science, Construction, Manufacturing, and related fields.
- Graduate Development Programme (GDP) – A structured 36-month programme for graduates in engineering and science disciplines, offering intensive training, leadership development, and practical exposure to Sasol’s business operations.
- Technician Development Programme (TDP) – Provides structured technical development for Learner Technicians. The programme includes mentorship, workplace exposure, competency-based assessments, and professional registration support through ECSA. It equips participants with technical, managerial, leadership, and life skills to meet industry standards.
- YES Programme (Youth Employment Service) – A business-led collaboration with government to reduce youth unemployment. Through the YES programme, young South Africans gain workplace experience and skill development, enhancing employability in both private and public sectors.
Eligibility Highlights:
- Must be a South African citizen by birth.
- Age limits vary (typically below 25–30 years depending on the programme).
- Full-time studies at an accredited South African university or University of Technology. Distance learning (e.g., UNISA) is not accepted.
- Academic performance and household income are considered.
- Only one application per student per programme.
