City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary Programme 2026

The City of Ekurhuleni is offering full-time undergraduate bursaries for 2026 across Engineering, IT, Health Sciences, Finance, Architecture, and Environmental Science. Open to residents aged 18–35 with a Grade 12 certificate. Applications close 3 April 2026.

Fields of Study

Applications are invited from students pursuing qualifications in the following disciplines:

  • Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
  • Town and Regional Planning / Architecture
  • Environmental Science
  • Finance, Accounting and Auditing
  • Information Technology / Computer Science / Data Science
  • Health Sciences

Only qualifications offered by accredited South African universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges will be considered. TVET College students are specifically encouraged to apply.

What the Bursary Covers

Subject to the availability of funds, the bursary covers:

  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks
  • Accommodation and meals (where applicable)

The bursary is renewable annually, based on academic performance.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens residing within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof of residence required)
  • Be between 18 and 35 years of age
  • Have completed Grade 12
  • Have secured an acceptance letter or proof of registration for the 2026 academic year
  • Be able to provide proof of total monthly household income

Documents Required

All applications must include certified copies (not older than three months) of the following:

  • South African ID
  • Matric certificate
  • Acceptance letter or proof of registration at an accredited institution
  • Proof of residence within the City of Ekurhuleni (not older than three months)
  • Motivation letter (maximum one page)
  • Proof of household income (salary slips, stamped bank statement with affidavit)
  • Social grant proof, if applicable

Conditions of the Bursary

Successful applicants will be required to sign a bursary contract with the City of Ekurhuleni. Recipients must maintain a minimum yearly average of 70% to remain eligible for renewal. Bursary holders may also be required to complete vacation work within municipal departments. The City reserves the right to withdraw the bursary in cases of poor academic performance or misconduct.
