Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM) is offering unemployed South African graduates an exceptional opportunity to launch their careers through a structured two-year Young Professional-in-Training (YPTI) programme. If you hold a qualification in Human Resources or Industrial Psychology and are eager to gain meaningful workplace experience, this programme was designed with you in mind.
TRIM’s Young Professional-in-Training programme is open to South African graduates between the ages of 18 and 35 who are currently unemployed and hold no prior work experience in their field of study. The programme runs for twenty-four months and is designed to provide participants with both institutionalised knowledge and hands-on, on-the-job training across various functional departments within TRIM. Progress is formally assessed every six months to ensure the programme continues to meet the needs of both the candidate and the organisation, making it one of the more rigorously supported graduate development opportunities in the South African rail sector.
The programme is hosted within the Department of TR-PMM-Young Professionals YPT-TRIM-PKT and is based in Johannesburg. Successful candidates will report to the Senior People Business Partner and will be placed across various departments within TRIM, giving participants broad exposure to the organisation’s operations and people practices.
To qualify, applicants must hold a Diploma in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, or an equivalent qualification at a minimum NQF Level 6, obtained from a Department of Higher Education and Training registered institution such as a university or university of technology. No prior work experience is required, and the programme specifically targets graduates who are ready to take their first professional step.
Beyond academic qualifications, TRIM is looking for candidates who demonstrate a strong set of professional competencies. Successful applicants should possess solid administrative and computer skills, an understanding of business environments, and the ability to work effectively within a team. High levels of integrity, professionalism, and a customer-focused attitude are essential. Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills will serve candidates well, as will the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders. TRIM values individuals who are proactive, energetic, assertive, and capable of managing conflict constructively. Research and analytical abilities round out the ideal candidate profile.
This opportunity is in line with Transnet’s Employment Equity Plan, and preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants from designated groups.
