ITS Global is a South African engineering consultancy with a reputation for delivering innovative transport solutions across a broad range of disciplines. The firm’s expertise spans civil engineering, specialist transport engineering, electronic engineering, transport economics, data science, and road safety education. ITS prides itself on bringing engineering rigour and fresh thinking to every project it undertakes, and its Cape Town office is now looking to add a skilled GIS Specialist to its team on a contract basis.
This is a contracted position for a minimum of six months, offering an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented spatial data professional to contribute meaningfully to real-world transport and infrastructure projects in a technically demanding environment.
As a GIS Specialist at ITS Global, you will be responsible for processing and analysing spatial datasets, producing maps, graphs, tables, and summary outputs that inform engineering and planning decisions. You will work with spatial databases, run SQL queries, and apply your understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and overlay analysis to deliver accurate and reliable geospatial intelligence. The role also involves data visualisation and reporting using tools such as Power BI or Tableau, and you will be expected to communicate your findings clearly, both in writing and verbally.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geoinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related field. You should have between zero and two years of experience in GIS, spatial analysis, data analysis, or a comparable technical role. Candidates must demonstrate basic proficiency in GIS software — specifically QGIS and ArcGIS — as well as basic to intermediate skills in Excel for data analysis. A working knowledge of spatial database management and spatial SQL queries is required, alongside basic to intermediate proficiency in Power BI or Tableau for visualisation and reporting purposes. Basic proficiency in Python or R is also expected.
Beyond the technical stack, ITS is looking for someone who brings strong attention to detail and a commitment to data quality control. You must be able to manage your own time effectively, follow instructions, and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking will be assets in this environment, where projects are complex and deadlines are real.
To apply, submit a detailed CV, contact numbers, references, and all required certificates directly to johanice@itsglobal.co.za. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. The closing date for applications is 10 April 2026.
