The Role
As a Graduate Engineer, you will be based within the Power and Energy division and work under the guidance of a Section Manager or appointed supervisor. This is a hands-on development role designed to grow your technical capability, professional confidence, and project management awareness from day one.
Your key responsibilities will include drafting technical reports of acceptable quality, leading small teams of Technicians and Draughtsmen on assigned projects, and providing assistance to Engineers with the checking of technical designs. You will complete technical duties as directed — including design, costing and specifications — and will be responsible for ensuring your assigned tasks are delivered on time and within budget.
The role also involves checking and inspecting constructed works for compliance with design and specifications, assisting with straightforward bids, managing meeting schedules and agendas, and compiling minutes. You will be expected to present your technical work confidently in meetings and develop a solid understanding of local functional business technologies and markets.
What You Will Bring
SMEC is looking for a motivated graduate who holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree, higher degree, or B-Tech in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college. Candidates with between 0 and 3 years of experience are encouraged to apply.
You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment. A strong sense of professionalism, awareness of time and deadlines, and a willingness to learn and grow within a structured engineering environment are essential.
