This is a structured three-year apprenticeship offering hands-on technical training in a world-class manufacturing environment — and a genuine launchpad for a career in refrigeration engineering.

The Opportunity
This apprenticeship is designed for motivated individuals who are passionate about engineering — specifically the Refrigeration discipline. Apprentices at I&J are not sidelined into observation roles. From day one, you will be placed in real working environments, given meaningful tasks, and held accountable for quality and delivery. Mentorship and guidance are embedded into the programme, ensuring you grow technically and professionally throughout your three-year contract.
What You Will Learn and Do
As a Refrigeration Mechanic Apprentice, you will gain practical exposure to refrigeration systems within a large-scale seafood manufacturing operation. You will be encouraged to think critically, propose alternative solutions to real engineering challenges, and develop the kind of hands-on competence that employers in the engineering sector value. Shift work is part of the role, reflecting the operational demands of a working production facility.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Matric certificate (Mathematics and Science are essential subjects)
- TVET College qualification — completed and passed — at a minimum of N2 level in one of the following related Engineering fields: Refrigeration, Electrical, or Mechanical Fitting
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of Refrigeration, Electrical, or Fitting trades is advantageous
- Prior refrigeration working experience is an added advantage
- Willingness to work shifts
- Willingness to enter into a three-year apprenticeship contract
- Willingness to participate in optional learning programmes
- Available to commence immediately
