Are you an undergraduate student with a passion for engineering, technology, or business — and a curiosity about what moves the world? Siemens Mobility invites you to apply for the Fit4Rail Vacation Program, a structured, hands-on learning experience designed to introduce ambitious young South Africans to the exciting world of modern rail and mobility systems.
About Siemens Mobility
Siemens Mobility is a global leader in transport solutions, delivering cutting-edge innovations in rolling stock, rail automation, electrification, and intelligent traffic systems. With a legacy of complex, large-scale rail infrastructure projects across the globe, Siemens Mobility is at the forefront of sustainable and digital mobility — and this programme is your entry point into that world.
About the Fit4Rail Program
The Fit4Rail Vacation Program is a foundational, university-level initiative developed to give students structured, real-world exposure to careers in the modern railway sector. Running for 9 weeks (45 working days), the programme combines classroom learning, technical training, guided workplace tasks, and site visits — all within a supportive, mentor-led environment.
The programme follows a modular learning approach and is designed around the intern’s development, offering exposure across key railway sub-systems including rolling stock, depots, electrification, EHS, AFC, signalling, and service and maintenance, depending on your discipline and project availability.
What You Will Do
As a Fit4Rail participant, you will complete a structured onboarding and orientation to understand Siemens Mobility’s operations, safety culture, and programme expectations. You will gain hands-on exposure to railway sub-systems relevant to your field of study, support host teams with supervised technical or business-related tasks, and attend technical sessions and site visits that bring real-world railway operations to life. Throughout the programme, you will work under an assigned manager and mentor who will provide coaching, feedback, and formal performance evaluation, culminating in an official programme certification.
Who Should Apply
The programme is open to currently enrolled undergraduate students or recent graduates from the following disciplines:
- Engineering: Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or IT
- Business-related fields
Strong academic performance is expected. No prior work experience is required — only a genuine enthusiasm for engineering, infrastructure, and mobility systems, paired with a willingness to learn, analytical thinking, good communication skills, and a professional, team-oriented attitude.
