Motus Toyota Bedfordview is looking for a motivated and hands-on individual to join their workshop team as an Apprentice Motor Mechanic (Level Year 1). If you have a passion for vehicles and a desire to build a long-term career as a qualified Motor Mechanic Technician, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.
Based in Edenvale, Gauteng, this is a contract position that offers structured, hands-on training within one of South Africa’s most reputable automotive retail groups. The successful candidate will be enrolled in a formal Apprentice Training Programme that runs for a maximum of three years, giving you the foundation, skills, and qualifications needed to become a fully certified technician in the Toyota and Hino environment.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Service Manager, the Apprentice will work alongside experienced Technicians, learning the trade from the ground up in a real workshop setting. This is not a classroom-only programme — you will be actively involved in day-to-day workshop operations from day one.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles under the close guidance of a qualified Technician. You will learn to remove and replace parts and units, jack up vehicles and position trestles safely, as well as remove and fit wheels, air filters, oil filters, and batteries. You will also assist with lubrication and oil changes carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications, and help with general vehicle repairs across the workshop.
Beyond the technical side of the work, you will be expected to maintain high standards of housekeeping — keeping your tools, equipment, overalls, and work area clean and organised at all times. Safety is a priority in any workshop environment, and you will be required to follow all prescribed safety rules without exception. You will also be required to attend technical and level courses as part of your structured apprenticeship journey.
Who Should Apply
This role is ideally suited to a young, enthusiastic individual who is serious about pursuing a career in the automotive industry. You must have a natural flair for working with your hands and a genuine interest in how vehicles work. The ability to work as part of a team and to take direction from senior technicians is essential.
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
You must hold a Grade 12 certificate with Pure Mathematics and Physical Science as passed subjects. A valid South African Driver’s Licence will be a strong advantage, though it is not a strict requirement. You must have a clear criminal record. Any prior technical skills or experience, however informal, will be an added advantage. A customer-focused attitude and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are important personal qualities for success in this role.
