About the Program

The Graduate Internship Program is designed to provide unemployed Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy graduates with structured, meaningful workplace experience within the Platinum Group Metals (PGM) industry. Over the course of the program, interns will gain valuable exposure to the operational, technical, safety, and managerial dimensions of engineering in a live production environment. Participants will also have the opportunity to contribute innovative ideas and support Implats’ operational objectives across its various operations.

This is a 24-month internship training program that commences in January 2027. The closing date for applications is 29 May 2026.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A completed NQF Level 7 qualification in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Chemical Engineering principles and/or Metallurgical principles
  • Must be currently unemployed and must not have previously participated in any graduate program
  • Medically fit for different operations, including Concentrator Operations, Smelting Operations, PMR, and BMR

Key Responsibilities

Successful interns will be expected to fulfil the following duties throughout the duration of the program:

  • Complete a structured 24-month internship training program aimed at enhancing general knowledge of the PGM industry
  • Participate in all required training and development interventions
  • Compile and submit training reports in line with program requirements
  • Provide technical and engineering support to operational areas to assist in meeting business and production targets
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through innovative technical and business solutions
