Eskom is inviting applications for a Technician: Secondary Plant (Metering and Measurements) based at Trident Substation, Rustenburg. This is a permanent opportunity within the Northern Grid, classified at Task Grade T11, and forms part of the Secondary Plant Business Unit.
About the Role
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that Secondary Plant infrastructure is operated and maintained in a safe, reliable, and effective manner. The successful candidate will play a key role in sustaining and enhancing continuity of electricity supply while meeting Eskom’s regional and organisational objectives.
This role sits within a technically demanding environment and requires someone who can deliver consistent, standardised outputs while driving performance improvement and responding effectively to faults and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
The Technician will be expected to:
- Contribute to the integrity of technical databases
- Provide hands-on technical service across Secondary Plant systems
- Deliver standardised outputs and support performance enhancement initiatives
- Conduct fault investigations and develop appropriate solutions
- Ensure full SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) compliance at all times
- Participate in training programmes and maintain emergency preparedness
Required Knowledge & Skills
Eskom requires a candidate with solid technical grounding and the ability to operate within a regulated utility environment. The following knowledge areas are essential:
- Technical and analytical ability to diagnose faults in electrical equipment and systems
- Understanding of Secondary Plant Systems and the broader Transmission Network
- Familiarity with ORHVS (Operation of High Voltage Systems)
- Knowledge of Eskom’s internal procedures, standards, and financial frameworks
- Awareness of statutory and legislative requirements applicable to the industry
On the skills side, the role demands strong communication and interpersonal abilities, computer and Operational Technology (OT) competence, proficiency with fall arrest equipment, and leadership capability within a team context.
Minimum Requirements
Qualification:
National Diploma / National N Diploma in Electrical Engineering at NQF Level 6 with 240 Credits
Experience:
P1 & P2 Technical experience within the Grids Business environment
