What Is the Apprenticeship Programme?
The Komatsu Apprenticeship Programme is a structured technical training system combining both practical and theoretical components within a designated trade. Upon successful completion, candidates achieve full artisan status — a recognised, portable, and highly valued qualification in South Africa’s mining and engineering sectors.

What You Will Be Doing
As an apprentice, you will be integrated into Komatsu’s technical operations while completing your training modules. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Familiarising yourself with the training programme and understanding all expectations from the outset
- Working safely at all times, without exception — safety is non-negotiable at Komatsu
- Achieving competence across all required training modules within your designated trade

Minimum Qualifications
You must meet one of the following academic requirements:
- N3 with 4 subjects, including the relevant trade theory, with a minimum D/L4 symbol in both Mathematics and Physical Science
- NC(V) Level 4 with a minimum D/L4 symbol in Mathematics and one additional subject in Engineering and Related Design or Electrical Infrastructure Construction
- S1 (Mathematics and Physical Science at D/L4 symbol or higher)
