Impala Platinum Refineries is inviting applications from high-performing Grade 12 learners who are passionate about engineering and science to apply for its Tertiary Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year. Based in Springs, Gauteng, Implats is a leading name in the platinum mining and refining industry, and this bursary is one of its key commitments to developing the next generation of skilled professionals in South Africa.
About the Programme
This is a full-time tertiary bursary administered through the Human Resources – Talent Management department. Successful candidates will receive comprehensive financial support throughout their undergraduate studies, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and study materials. In addition to financial assistance, bursary holders will gain hands-on industry exposure through December and January vacation work at the Refineries in Springs — an invaluable opportunity to apply classroom learning in a live industrial environment and build a foundation for a long-term career with Implats.

Supported Fields of Study
Bursaries are offered for NQF Level 7 (degree) qualifications in the following disciplines:
- Electrical Engineering (Preferably Heavy Current)
- Mechanical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Chemistry
Who Should Apply
This bursary is aimed at current Grade 12 learners who meet the following minimum academic requirements:
- Mathematics: Minimum 60% (Level 5)
- English: Minimum 60% (Level 5)
- Physical Science: Minimum 60% (Level 5)
Preference will be given to scholars from Eastern Ekurhuleni, Ward 72, and schools in the vicinity of the Refineries operation.
