About the Opportunity

In-service training (also known as WIL — Work Integrated Learning) placements at Illovo Sugar South Africa give students the chance to apply classroom theory to real operational settings. Trainees in the Chemical Engineering stream will be exposed to process systems, plant operations, and engineering problem-solving within a live sugar manufacturing environment. Trainees in the Analytical Chemistry stream will gain practical laboratory experience, working with quality testing, sample analysis, and analytical procedures that are critical to maintaining product standards.

This structured exposure is designed to help students meet their institutional practical training requirements while building genuine workplace competencies that will benefit their future careers in engineering, manufacturing, or laboratory sciences.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently registered for a relevant diploma or degree in Chemical Engineering or Analytical Chemistry (or a closely related field)
  • In need of practical/in-service training as part of academic completion requirements
  • Strong academic record and genuine interest in the sugar manufacturing or process industries
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to work in an industrial/plant environment
