AECOM is inviting applications from currently enrolled National Diploma students in Civil Engineering who need to complete their P1 and/or P2 practical training. Based in AECOM’s Enterprise Capabilities office in Centurion, this internship offers exposure to a live, complex infrastructure project under the guidance of a qualified supervisor, within a flexible hybrid work arrangement.

What You’ll Be Exposed To

Under the supervision of a qualified Civil Engineer, interns will gain hands-on exposure to:

  • Project familiarisation, including design documentation and AECOM’s quality management system
  • Civil engineering fundamentals covering earthworks, materials, and structural principles applied to dam and associated infrastructure design
  • Drafting and detailing, assisting with basic engineering drawings and schedules
  • Site exposure to contextualise design decisions, where applicable
  • Technical reporting, including data capture and document management
  • Health, safety, and environmental requirements specific to the project

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a National Diploma in Civil Engineering at a recognised University of Technology
  • Must require P1 and/or P2 practical training as a formal component of the qualification
  • Good academic standing, with most recent transcripts submitted alongside the application
  • No prior work experience required; tertiary-level knowledge is sufficient
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; exposure to AutoCAD or Civil 3D is advantageous
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Availability for the full 6- or 12-month placement duration, as confirmed by the University of Technology

Additional Information

A monthly stipend will be provided in line with the CIDB Standard for Developing Skills Through Infrastructure Contracts (April 2026). This opportunity is strictly for the Centurion office in Gauteng.
