HENSOLDT South Africa is offering a Technician Intern opportunity based in Irene, giving candidates structured, hands-on exposure to fault finding, system integration, testing, maintenance and field support in a specialised technical radar environment.
About the Role
The Technician Intern will support the maintenance, repair, testing, and serviceability of electronic and electro-mechanical products and systems, helping to ensure reliable system performance and the fulfilment of contracted customer service requirements. This internship is designed to build technical competence through supervised, practical experience, with the goal of transitioning participants into fully capable technical roles.
Qualification and Experience
- Diploma in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification
- 0–1 year of experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic components, equipment and/or systems
- Exposure to or interest in the Defence, Aerospace, Aviation, or Airport industry will be advantageous
Key Technical Skills
- Basic electronics and electronic component identification
- Interpretation of electronic circuit diagrams and wiring schematics
- Introductory fault finding and diagnostic techniques
- Interpretation of basic electronic and mechanical drawings
- Use of electronic test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes and power supplies (under supervision)
- Basic electronic and electro-mechanical system assembly and integration
- Introduction to acceptance testing and preventive maintenance techniques
Key Responsibilities
Fault Finding, Repair and Maintenance: Assist with fault finding, diagnostics, component identification, repair, testing and preventive maintenance of electronic assemblies and systems under supervision to support equipment serviceability and reliability.
System Integration, Installation and Field Support: Assist with the assembly, installation, integration, modification, commissioning and field support of electronic and electro-mechanical systems at internal and customer sites, while developing practical technical competence.
Testing and Technical Verification: Support system testing, Acceptance Test Procedures, and the use of electronic test equipment under guidance to verify system functionality against defined technical and performance requirements.
Quality, Configuration and Technical Documentation: Apply approved technical, quality and configuration management procedures under supervision, and maintain accurate maintenance, test, repair and implementation records.
Technical Learning and Capability Development: Participate actively in structured on-the-job training across electronic systems, radar technology, maintenance and technical support to develop competence and progress toward a fully capable technical role.
