Role Overview

The Automation Intern will be responsible for researching, analysing, and evaluating requirements for Control and Instrumentation systems. The incumbent will be involved in the design, development, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of these systems, as well as reviewing work carried out by outsourced parties where applicable. This role offers excellent exposure to the full project lifecycle in a professional engineering environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12)
• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Electronics or Instrumentation)

Experience

• 1 Year of relevant experience (Advantageous)

Knowledge and Competencies Required

Candidates should ideally possess the following:

• Extensive knowledge of PLC Programming, SCADA and HMI design, configuration, and implementation
• Extensive knowledge of Control and Instrumentation Design principles
• Extensive knowledge of commissioning Control and Instrumentation Systems
• Strong familiarity with popular PLC, SCADA, HMI and electrical product brands including Schneider, Allen Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Adroit, and Aveva
• Extensive knowledge of Industrial Networking design and configuration, covering Ethernet, MODBUS, Fibre Optic, Profibus, and Devicenet
• Intermediate knowledge of Telemetry systems
• Advanced Computer Literacy
• Basic knowledge of Electrical Systems Design, particularly Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
• Basic knowledge of Computer Aided Design systems and tools, including AutoCAD Electrical
• Basic knowledge of Soft Starters and Drives setup and commissioning
