The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) invites qualifying and motivated individuals to apply for an internship opportunity within the Social Development Department, under the Management Support Unit. This programme aims to offer practical work experience to graduates from Johannesburg communities, contributing to the professional development of young people while supporting the City’s developmental goals.

Duration: Not exceeding 18 months
Stipend: R10 109.86 per month (Basic salary, no additional benefits)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in a built environment discipline such as Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Building
  • A Project Management Certificate or a Degree in Administration or Management
  • Knowledge of local government policies and procedures will be an added advantage
  • Only applicants residing within the City of Johannesburg will be considered
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in any internship programme, except in cases where the previous internship was not related to their field of study

Primary Function: The role requires the intern to apply a design plan aligned with an approved business case and support the preparation and implementation of systems. This is to ensure that project objectives are achieved within set timelines and budget, while utilising allocated resources effectively to meet performance expectations.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Develop and communicate relevant business plans and procedures to all stakeholders to ensure strategic goals of the Facilities Operations Unit are achieved
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and ethical standards in executing responsibilities

Leading Capabilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet navigation
  • Good command of English (written and verbal)
  • Ability to understand broader business issues
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Core Competencies:

  • Familiarity with City of Johannesburg programmes, regulations, laws, and acts will be an advantage
  • Commitment to client service delivery aligned with Batho Pele principles
  • Uphold high levels of integrity and professionalism in all work responsibilities
