The Democratic Alliance (DA) is inviting applications from qualified graduates for a Parliamentary Research Internship (Legal), based in Cape Town. The Parliamentary Research Unit plays a critical supporting role in this work, equipping Members of Parliament with the research, analysis, and strategic insight needed to hold government accountable and drive meaningful policy discussion. This internship places you at the centre of that function.

About the Role

The successful intern will be embedded within the Parliamentary Research team, contributing across a range of research and administrative functions. Day-to-day responsibilities include responding to general and legislative research requests, monitoring parliamentary activities, and proactively identifying strategic issues that could be advanced in the public or media sphere. The role also involves general support functions within the Research Unit, meaning the intern will gain broad exposure to the operational rhythms of parliamentary work.

This is not a passive, observe-and-file role. The DA is looking for someone who is outcomes-oriented, capable of working independently, and willing to go the extra mile — including irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays when parliamentary business demands it.

Who Should Apply

The minimum requirement is a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent law qualification, supported by demonstrated legal research experience in an academic or professional setting. Computer literacy across the MS Office Suite and Zoom is required. Experience in quality assurance or data auditing would be advantageous.

Beyond qualifications, the DA is seeking a candidate with sharp analytical and critical thinking skills, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to distil complex legal and legislative information into clear, accessible language. The role demands sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to perform factual research under pressure.
