The City of Cape Town’s Corporate Services Directorate, under the Department of Information Systems and Technology (IS&T), is seeking to appoint a skilled and dynamic individual to the role of IT Systems Administrator – Infrastructure. This opportunity is ideal for a highly motivated professional who is passionate about infrastructure management and contributing to the reliable delivery of ICT services to one of South Africa’s leading municipalities.

We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements and are committed to public service excellence.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant 3-year professional ICT qualification (National Diploma or equivalent).
  • A Bachelor’s degree, Bachelor of Technology, Advanced Diploma, or BTech in ICT will be advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2–5 years’ relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proven exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud offerings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Landing Zone design and implementation is highly beneficial.
  • Knowledge or exposure to Kubernetes or similar cloud containerization technologies is an added advantage.
  • Specialised knowledge of open-source operating systems such as SLES and Red Hat is required.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies is desirable.
  • A valid Code B driver’s license is required.
  • Must be available 24/7 to support the City’s critical business systems.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Maintain and manage the City’s server environment that hosts business-critical applications and systems.
  • Implement and support system performance monitoring and alerting tools to ensure seamless operations.
  • Handle complex correspondence and reporting related to system performance, recommending improvements to line management.
  • Administer and optimise IT systems that monitor the health status of distributed applications and infrastructure.
  • Ensure the uptime and availability of ICT systems, enabling effective service delivery.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and accurate records to ensure optimal resource usage and compliance within the IS&T department.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance system monitoring and overall IT service performance.
  • Assist in deploying and managing infrastructure changes within the server environment.
