Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Engineering Intern to join our team in Potchefstroom. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Mechanical or Industrial Engineering graduate looking to gain hands-on experience within a high-tech manufacturing and engineering environment. As an intern, you will play a critical support role in developing clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation across a range of complex systems. You will work closely with experienced engineers and subject matter experts to ensure the accurate transfer of technical knowledge to user-friendly documentation formats.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Writing:

  • Create and edit technical documents, including user manuals, operation guides, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy in all technical content.
  • Adhere to company documentation standards and style guidelines.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology and document formatting across all technical resources.

Research and Information Gathering:

  • Conduct thorough research on mechanical equipment and production systems.
  • Gather technical information from various sources including engineers, designers, and legacy documentation.
  • Analyze and synthesize information to develop comprehensive technical documents.

Illustrations and Diagrams:

  • Collaborate with design teams to develop technical illustrations that enhance documentation.
  • Modify or create diagrams to simplify the understanding of complex concepts for end-users.

Review and Editing:

  • Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
  • Proofread content to eliminate grammatical, spelling, and formatting errors.
  • Incorporate feedback from technical experts and stakeholders.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions focused on documentation improvements.
  • Work closely with engineers, product designers, and project teams to obtain and validate information.
  • Translate technical jargon into easy-to-understand language suitable for a non-technical audience.

Documentation Management:

  • Maintain organized records of all documents and versions.
  • Use document control systems to manage and track revisions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BTech or BEng in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Excellent command of the English language with strong writing and editing skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and other document creation tools.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to quickly grasp complex concepts.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a focus on producing high-quality documentation.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • A proactive attitude with good problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems will be an advantage.
