ERM Africa is offering a 12-month paid internship designed to launch your career with the world’s largest pure-play sustainability consultancy. With over 50 years of experience operating across 40+ countries, ERM partners with leading global organisations to solve complex environmental, social, and governance challenges — and now they want you to be part of that mission.

About the Programme

This structured internship places you at the heart of real client projects, working alongside multidisciplinary teams and world-class technical specialists. You will gain hands-on experience, access to ERM’s global technical networks, and the professional development resources needed to grow into a capable sustainability consultant. The programme runs for 12 months and is based across Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.

Available Service Lines

ERM Africa is recruiting interns across seven specialist areas:

Safe and Sustainable Operations (SSO) — For graduates in Engineering, OHS, or Risk Management with an interest in industrial risk assessments and compliance.

Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation — Water and Hydrology — For graduates in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Science who understand groundwater and surface water systems and are willing to undertake fieldwork.

Technical Mining Services — For graduates in Geology, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field with an understanding of geological or mining processes.

Climate Sustainability and Climate Change — For graduates in Sustainability, Climate Studies, or Environmental Economics with knowledge of GHG accounting and ESG frameworks.

Capital Project Delivery (CPD) — ESIA — For Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or Engineering graduates ready to support environmental and social impact assessments, fieldwork, and reporting.

Biodiversity and Ecology — For graduates in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biodiversity, or a related field, supporting species surveys and ecological assessments.

Customer Success Intern — ERM Libryo — For BCom or business-related graduates with an interest in SaaS platforms and digital compliance solutions.

Who Should Apply

ERM Africa is looking for recent graduates (within the last 24 months) who are eager to contribute, learn, and collaborate.
