We are currently seeking a qualified and dedicated Chemical Technician to join our Research Testing and Development (RT&D) team within the Group Strategy and Sustainability Division in Bloemfontein.

Position Overview

The Chemical Technician will be responsible for applying knowledge in chemistry, instrumentation, and statistical methods to support engineers in identifying and solving chemical-related problems within plant operations. This includes conducting precise laboratory analyses, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring the cost-effective functioning of the laboratory.

You will be joining a dynamic team where innovation, safety, and collaboration are at the core of operations. The role provides exposure to Eskom’s large-scale research environment and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the country’s energy development and sustainability efforts.


Minimum Requirements

Qualification(s):

  • A National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (NQF Level 6) with 240 credits.

Experience:

  • Relevant laboratory experience.
  • Completion of practical training P1 and P2 is essential.

  • South African Institute of Technology (SAIT) transformer course (advantageous)
  • Eskom policies, procedures, and general laboratory practices
  • In-depth knowledge of analytical chemistry principles

Technical Skills:

  • Computer literacy
  • Oil and water chemistry analysis
  • Customer sampling and communication
  • Basic financial understanding
  • Effective presentation and reporting abilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize daily laboratory workflows and perform accurate chemical analyses.
  • Contribute to the laboratory’s health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure operations are aligned with cost-effective and quality-controlled practices.
  • Provide support to the supervisor and other engineering staff in ongoing projects and plant investigations.
