Youth Employment Service (YES) — GEMMA Cluster | Vryburg, Rustenburg & Lichtenburg
Eskom, South Africa’s national power utility, is offering 20 Youth Employment Service (YES) work experience placements across its GEMMA Cluster operations in the North West Province. These fixed-term, 12-month contracts are based across Vryburg, Rustenburg, and Lichtenburg, and are open to unemployed young South Africans between the ages of 18 and 34 who are ready to take their first step into the world of work.
The YES initiative is a flagship public-private partnership led by the Presidency, designed to tackle youth unemployment at scale by placing young people inside real working environments. For Eskom, participation in the programme reflects a broader commitment to building a capable, energised workforce pipeline for South Africa’s energy sector. Successful candidates will be embedded within Eskom’s Retail Business Unit under the Customer Service department, gaining hands-on exposure to operations in one of the country’s most strategically important industries.
This is not a training course or a classroom programme. It is genuine, paid work experience inside a functioning energy utility — the kind of first-job opportunity that can shape the trajectory of a young person’s entire career. Candidates who perform well will leave the programme with a verifiable work record, professional references, and a direct understanding of how large-scale utility operations function on the ground.
Positions are allocated across three North West towns — Vryburg, Rustenburg, and Lichtenburg — giving applicants in the broader GEMMA Cluster region a realistic opportunity to participate without having to relocate to a major metro. The roles fall under the Administration and Customer Service job category, and the remuneration is market-related for the duration of the 12-month fixed-term contract.
To be considered, applicants must be South African citizens aged between 18 and 34, and must hold a Grade 12 certificate with a Mathematics pass of at least 50%, or Mathematics Literacy at 70% or above. A minimum of 60% in English is required, along with proficiency in at least one other official South African language. Candidates must not be studying full-time during the year of employment, must not have been permanently employed by a single employer for more than one continuous year, and must not have previously participated in or registered for the YES initiative.
Eskom is looking for young people who demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to customer-focused service. You do not need prior work experience — this programme is specifically designed for those entering the job market for the first time or with very limited exposure.
The closing date for applications is 23 March 2026. If you have not been contacted within 28 days of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful. Eskom reserves the right not to make appointments. Candidates living with disabilities are actively encouraged to apply.
Do not let this opportunity pass. Twenty positions are available, and each one represents a real chance to launch your career inside a world-class energy organisation.
