Are you a passionate, recently qualified metallurgist ready to make your mark in the mining industry? Sylvania Metals is offering an exceptional opportunity for 4 Junior Metallurgists to join our dynamic team at the Doornbosch Plant on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract.

About the Role

As a Junior Metallurgist at Sylvania Metals, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, providing crucial metallurgical support to our plant management team. This isn’t just another entry-level position – it’s your chance to gain hands-on experience in a world-class processing facility while contributing directly to operational excellence and safety standards.

You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who are committed to your development, tackling real-world challenges in plant optimization, process improvement, and technical troubleshooting. From conducting metallurgical test work to participating in process design activities, you’ll be involved in meaningful projects that directly impact production efficiency and quality.

What You’ll Do

Your responsibilities will span the entire spectrum of plant operations. You’ll support the operational management of our processing plants, ensuring they run effectively within defined processing parameters. You’ll monitor production quality and quantity, conduct metal accounting, and maintain comprehensive performance data. Your role will also involve production debottlenecking, cost optimization initiatives, and implementing technical standards that keep our operations running smoothly and safely.

What We’re Looking For

We need individuals with a strong educational foundation – a Matric Certificate with Mathematics and Science, plus a B.Tech Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering. Post-graduate qualifications will strengthen your application. While post-qualification plant experience is advantageous, we’re primarily seeking potential and passion. If you have PGM Flotation or Chrome Recovery Plant experience, that’s a significant plus.

Beyond qualifications, we value practical skills: computer literacy, strong presentation abilities, and excellent administrative capabilities. You’ll need a valid certificate of fitness, a Code 8 driver’s license, and your own transport.
