The City of Ekurhuleni is recruiting Finance Management Interns (XFIN0055) within its Finance Department. Open to unemployed South African graduates with qualifications in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, or Auditing. Ekurhuleni residents only. Closing 31 May 2026.

The City of Ekurhuleni is inviting applications from suitably qualified and unemployed young graduates to participate in its Finance Management Internship Programme. This is a structured, temporary learning opportunity hosted within the Finance Department, designed to give emerging finance professionals meaningful exposure to municipal financial operations and public sector financial management practices.

If you hold a relevant qualification in finance or a related discipline and you are looking to gain hands-on experience in a large and dynamic metro environment, this internship could be the launchpad your career needs.

About the Opportunity

Reference number XFIN0055 sits within the City of Ekurhuleni’s Finance Department. The position is temporary in nature and carries a remuneration of R4,833 per month. Applications close on 31 May 2026. Candidates are reminded that permanent employment is not guaranteed upon completion of the programme, and the internship should be approached as a professional development and skills-building opportunity within one of Gauteng’s largest metropolitan municipalities.

Who Should Apply

To be considered for this internship, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in one or more of the following disciplines: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, or Auditing. The programme is specifically targeted at residents of the City of Ekurhuleni who have not previously participated in a similar internship or learnership programme. Applicants must be South African citizens, must be unemployed at the time of application, and must not be older than 35 years of age. The City of Ekurhuleni strongly encourages people with disabilities to apply.

Why Consider a Municipal Finance Internship

Working within a metropolitan municipality’s Finance Department offers exposure that is difficult to find in the private sector. Interns gain an understanding of public sector budgeting, expenditure management, supply chain finance, and financial reporting within a regulated and accountability-driven environment. The scale of operations at a metro like Ekurhuleni means that interns work alongside experienced professionals managing billions of rands in municipal budgets, giving participants a strong foundation whether they pursue careers in local government, the broader public sector, or private practice.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the City of Ekurhuleni’s e-Recruitment portal. Ensure that all required qualifications and supporting documents are attached to your online application, as incomplete applications will not be considered. Candidates may be required to provide proof of the NQF level applicable to their qualifications.

Should you not receive feedback within eight weeks of the closing date of 31 May 2026, please consider your application unsuccessful. The City of Ekurhuleni subscribes to the principles of the Employment Equity Act and reserves the right to appoint, not appoint, or to appoint laterally.
