from hardship to hope: the boy’s tale

Adam’s journey began with allure and betrayal, leading to a dangerous delivery job and captivity by a powerful syndicate. Struggling through slavery, he found hope in friendship, resilience in despair, and the courage to pursue freedom against impossible odds.

Adam’s Journey

The story begins with a boy named Adam, who had just moved into a new place in a densely populated area. The home was owned by a woman named Hope. Upon arriving, Adam was immediately struck by her beauty. Her hair framed her face perfectly, and her sparkling eyes and radiant smile effortlessly captured everyone’s attention.

Hope worked as a manager for a large corporation owned by a man named Frankie. Frankie owned several properties in the area, and Hope, also his lover, managed these buildings.

Hope told Adam that in order to receive an invoice for his rent, he needed to visit the office to make a payment. She gave him the address of the office, and though he was exhausted, Adam decided to go the next day.

The following morning, when Adam went to make the payment, he found Hope behind the counter, speaking to an older woman named Mathies. Adam asked how much he owed, mentioning that he had already paid R150 the previous day. Mathies informed him that the full rent was R1500. Without hesitation, Adam paid the remaining amount.

As Adam left the office, he noticed other workers—general laborers and truck drivers—boasting about their good wages. He greeted them before heading home.

Later that day, Hope visited Adam in his room. She seduced him, and they ended up becoming intimate. Hope was incredibly beautiful, and no man could resist her charm.

The next morning, when Adam woke up, she was already gone. She had woken up early to prepare for work. Adam, still in disbelief, couldn’t believe that he had been intimate with her.

Determined to surprise her, Adam decided to visit her workplace with a gift. When he arrived, he found Hope surrounded by her workers.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“I just wanted to check on you,” Adam replied.

“You could have called,” she said with a smirk.

Adam, still thinking about the previous night, said, “What you did for me last night… it’s been on my mind all day.”

“Yoh, your drama,” Hope muttered. “Okay, wait here,” she added, heading to the back office with Mathies.

Adam, being spiritually gifted, suddenly heard a voice telling him to run. He didn’t understand it, but when he looked at the general workers, something seemed off. They looked suspicious. Trusting his instincts, he ran out of the workshop. The workers chased him for about 1.5 km before he lose them.

Now Adam understood his landlord’s intentions. He couldn’t return to his room to collect his belongings, fearing for his life. With no money left for another room, he felt desperate and helpless. He wondered why these strange things always seemed to happen to him.

As he walked, he spotted a mall and decided to go inside. There, he met an Indian man who dealt with jewelry. Adam explained his situation, and the man listened attentively.

“I’ll help you,” the Indian man said. “But promise me you’ll always be brutally honest with me.”

Adam, his eyes filled with tears, nodded. “I will.”

The Indian man handed him a small bag filled with jewelry and an envelope. “This is your first delivery,” he said. “Inside the envelope is the address. Sometimes the people you’re delivering to may not be home, so you’ll use the key inside to leave the jewelry for them.”

“How do you have the keys to your clients’ places?” Adam asked.

The Indian man replied, “I’ve built trust with my clients. We don’t have the same issues you Africans do—we trust each other.”

Adam was taken aback but nodded. “Okay. I won’t disappoint you. You really saved me.”

“Don’t think about it,” the Indian man said. “Just do the job.”

Thabo’s delivery was only 1-2 kilometers away. As he walked, he reflected on how quickly his situation had changed. Just a few hours ago, he had been in trouble, and now, it seemed like fate had intervened to help him.

When he arrived in the suburb, he marveled at the wealth of the area. Passing by mansions, he thought to himself, One day, I want to live in a place like this.

He reached the address, which was an apartment unit in a complex. He knocked on the door, but there was no answer. Hesitating for a moment, he opened the door and stepped inside. The apartment was beautiful, with stunning decorations. Adam was amazed. I’ve never seen a house this beautiful, he thought as he placed the jewelry and quickly left.

When he returned to the Indian man, he was greeted with a smile.

“You’ve shown me that I can trust you,” the man said, handing Thabo R300 for the delivery. “This is your pay. I will pay you for each delivery you make.”

Adam smiled with excitement. “This should be enough to get me a place to sleep tonight.”

The Indian man nodded. “Hopefully. Let’s meet tomorrow. I have another delivery for you.”

The next day, Adam arrived at 8:00 AM, but the Indian man didn’t show up until 10:30 AM.

“Where do you get all this jewelry from?” Adam asked.

“We order it from overseas,” the Indian man replied. “But I won’t tell you from where. look I’ll get you bike to make your work easier”

The Indian man handed Adam another delivery as goes . This time, the address was 3 km away. Adam walked, but by the time he reached a rest stop under a tree, he was exhausted. He opened the bag and was stunned by the value of the jewelry inside. This must be worth hundreds of thousands of Rands , he thought.

Greed began to take over. He considered running away with the jewelry instead of delivering it. After a brief internal struggle, he decided to continue with the delivery.

When he arrived at the apartment complex, he hesitated, but the temptation to keep the jewelry was overwhelming. The devil’s influence had taken hold, and Adam decided to run off with the jewelry.

He walked aimlessly until he was out of town, avoiding main roads to avoid being spotted by his boss’s associates. He took a farm road and walked for over A distance of 20km until sunset. As he hid in a cave, he heard search teams approaching. Unbeknownst to Adam, his boss was deeply connected to a powerful organization that had its own unlawful syndicate.

He hid quietly as a soldier passed nearby. The terrorist seemed to sense Adam’s presence but didn’t approach. Adam wondered if the soldier had noticed him but was trying to protect him or he didn’t see him at all.

But his luck ran out. The syndicate of terrorists found him. As they searched him, Adam hoped he had already discarded the jewelry. He was quickly taken to a remote terrorist camp where he was forced into slavery, working without pay for three years. He became a mere laborer, surviving on scraps.

During this time, he formed a bond with a fellow slave named Henry. Together with other prisoners, they planned an escape. The terrorists, confident that the slaves would never survive in the wild, did not try to stop them.

However, when Adam and his friends returned after failing to escape, they were surprised. Henry was punished for his escape attempt, but Adam was given a new contract to work as a general laborer for R5k a month, with the promise of a promotion in the years to come.
