Specializing in high-accuracy meteorological weather stations and solar measurements, GeoSUN plays a key role in advancing solar energy technologies. An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Junior Technician to join their team in an office-based capacity.

About the Role

The Junior Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the assembly, maintenance, and operation of weather stations and solar-related equipment. The role includes office-based and fieldwork responsibilities, requiring technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.

The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment while traveling occasionally to remote sites for field-related tasks. GeoSUN offers comprehensive in-house training to ensure candidates have the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the role.

Key Responsibilities

The duties of the Junior Technician include:

Assembling weather stations and related equipment.

Performing panel wiring and assisting with equipment testing.

Supporting stock control and drafting wiring diagrams.

Undertaking administrative tasks, such as report writing.

Providing remote client support and troubleshooting.

Traveling to utility-scale solar plant sites for fieldwork every second week (typically for five consecutive days).

This is a dynamic role that offers exposure to both technical and administrative functions within the renewable energy sector.

Training and Support

GeoSUN is committed to employee development and will provide all the required in-house training. Candidates will gain hands-on experience and expertise in working with specialized equipment, ensuring they are well-prepared for their responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

N4 to N6 qualification in electrical engineering.

A solid understanding of electronics.

Good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the role.

Additional Skills (Advantageous)

While not mandatory, the following skills and qualifications will be beneficial:

A National Diploma in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering.

Basic programming knowledge.

Familiarity with digital communication protocols.

Access to reliable transport.

These additional skills will help candidates excel in their responsibilities and adapt to the evolving needs of the position.

Candidates who cannot reliably commute to Stellenbosch on a daily basis.
