Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS), one of South Africa’s most established and respected public transport operators, is offering three exciting development opportunities for unemployed young South Africans in 2026. Whether you are a recent graduate looking to gain workplace experience, an individual eager to build practical skills in a professional environment, or someone passionate about a career in professional driving, Golden Arrow has a pathway designed for you. All three programmes are based in Cape Town, Western Cape, and close on 20 March 2026.

1. Skills Programme 2026

The Golden Arrow Skills Programme is designed for unemployed individuals who want to develop specific technical or professional competencies without committing to a full learnership. The programme combines structured training with practical workplace exposure, equipping participants with hands-on experience that meaningfully improves their employability in the public transport sector and beyond.

The Skills Programme runs for approximately 3 months and is open to South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 who hold a Grade 12 qualification. Candidates must be currently unemployed, demonstrate a strong willingness to learn, and possess good communication and interpersonal skills.

Required documents for the Skills Programme include an updated CV, certified copy of ID, certified copy of highest school qualification (Grade 12), proof of residence, proof of SARS/Income Tax Number, certified copy of Driver’s Licence and Traffic Clearance (if applicable), and proof of banking details.

2. Internship Programme 2026

The Golden Arrow Internship Programme is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity aimed at unemployed graduates who completed their studies in 2025 or 2026. The programme places interns across various departments within the organisation, giving them valuable industry exposure, professional skills development, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic public transport environment.

Internship placements are available in the following fields: Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Office/Business Management, Operations and Logistics, and Engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics).

Interns will be expected to assist with day-to-day departmental tasks, participate in projects and assignments, conduct research and compile reports, support administrative functions, and attend training and development sessions.

To be considered, candidates must be between 18 and 35 years of age, hold a relevant Diploma or Degree in their chosen field (obtained in 2025 or 2026), be currently unemployed, and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy (MS Office), and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

Required documents for the Internship Programme include an updated CV, certified copies of qualifications, copy of ID, proof of residence, proof of SARS/Income Tax Number, and proof of banking details.

3. NCPD Learnership Programme 2026

The National Certificate: Professional Driving (NCPD) Learnership is a 12-month programme ideal for individuals who are passionate about becoming professional bus drivers and building a long-term career in the public transport industry. The learnership combines theoretical training with practical driving experience, ultimately leading to a nationally recognised qualification in professional driving.

Successful learners will receive a monthly stipend, earn an accredited National Certificate: Professional Driving, gain practical driving experience with a leading bus operator, and stand the chance of future employment subject to performance.

Requirements for the NCPD Learnership are: age between 21 and 35 years, Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent, a valid Code B driver’s licence (Code C/EC advantageous), a valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) or willingness to obtain one, traffic clearance, South African citizenship, medical fitness to drive, good communication skills, and willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

Required documents include an updated CV, certified copy of ID, certified copy of Matric certificate, valid driver’s licence and traffic clearance, valid PrDP, proof of residence, proof of SARS/Income Tax Number, and proof of banking details.
