Are you a newly qualified electrical engineer ready to launch your career on projects that genuinely shape the world? SMEC South Africa is looking for a driven and curious Graduate Engineer to join our Power and Energy division — and build something worth talking about.
Who We Are
SMEC is a global engineering consultancy with roots stretching back to 1949 and Australia’s iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme. Seventy-five years later, we operate across more than 35 countries, delivering complex infrastructure and energy projects that improve lives and communities. As part of the Surbana Jurong Group — a global network of over 16,000 specialists — we bring together world-class expertise and local knowledge to solve some of the most demanding engineering challenges on the planet.
In South Africa, our teams are at the forefront of power and energy development, and we’re growing. This is your opportunity to be part of it from the ground up.
The Role
As a Graduate Engineer, you won’t just be watching from the sidelines. From day one, you’ll be contributing meaningfully — drafting technical reports, supporting design and costing work, inspecting constructed works in the field, and presenting your findings to the team. You’ll lead small groups of technicians and draughtsmen, manage meeting schedules, and develop a solid understanding of the tools, markets and procedures that define our industry.
This is a role designed to stretch you. You’ll work under the guidance of experienced engineers while being trusted with real responsibility — completing assigned tasks on time and within budget, assisting with bids, and training junior team members in relevant software. Every day will build on the last.
What You’ll Bring
A Bachelor of Engineering degree or B-Tech in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is essential, along with up to three years of experience (including none at all — we welcome fresh graduates). Just as important is your ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across disciplines, and bring a professional attitude to everything you do.
Why SMEC?
We invest in our people because great engineering starts with great minds. At SMEC, you’ll find mentorship, meaningful work, and a culture that genuinely values diversity, inclusion and belonging — not as a checkbox, but as the foundation of how we operate. We believe different perspectives produce better solutions, and we want yours.
If you’re ready to turn your degree into a career that makes a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Apply now and engineer the change you want to see.
