Valterra Platinum invites applications for its Graduate Programme in Metallurgical and Chemical Engineering, offering ambitious graduates the opportunity to develop their skills, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the future of mining. As an independent and leading primary producer of platinum group metals (PGMs) with operations in South Africa and Zimbabwe, Valterra Platinum is committed to operational excellence, sustainability, and innovation. Following its demerger from Anglo American plc, the company now operates with full accountability for its growth and performance, holding primary and secondary listings on the Johannesburg and London stock exchanges.

The Graduate Programme is designed for final-year students or recent graduates who are passionate about applying their Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering knowledge across the full platinum value chain. With eight positions available, successful candidates will rotate between various processing plants in the Limpopo and North West provinces, gaining exposure to different operational environments. This experience will provide a strong foundation for a successful career within the mining industry.

From the outset, graduates will work on challenging projects that contribute directly to mining operations, developing their technical capabilities and problem-solving skills. The programme offers structured mentorship from industry leaders who are committed to guiding graduates in their professional development. Participants will be involved in activities ranging from optimising processes and improving safety to driving innovation and sustainability initiatives. A focus on data analysis will equip graduates with the ability to provide valuable insights for operational decision-making and continuous improvement.

Collaboration is at the heart of the programme, with graduates working alongside experts and cross-functional teams to address operational challenges. The company encourages the application of fresh ideas, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Professional development opportunities include specialised training, mentorship, and exposure to diverse projects, preparing participants for technical specialist or leadership roles within the organisation.

Safety and compliance are fundamental values at Valterra Platinum, and graduates will be expected to perform their duties in alignment with the company’s safety standards and regulatory requirements. This commitment ensures a secure and responsible working environment for all employees.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science/Engineering (Honours) in Metallurgy, a Bachelor of Science/Engineering (Honours) in Chemical Engineering, or a BSc Honours in Applied Science (Metallurgy). A minimum final academic average of 65% is required, and candidates must have graduated within the past 24 months. Applicants should have no more than 12 months of post-qualification experience. Each application must be accompanied by a CV, a full academic transcript, and a copy of the applicant’s South African Identity Document. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
