Feltex Automotive is inviting applications from motivated and detail-oriented graduates to join its Foam Division as a Graduate Trainee Chemical Engineer based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain meaningful, hands-on experience within a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment.

About the Role

As a Graduate Trainee Chemical Engineer, you will be embedded within the Engineering and Production functions of the Foam Division. You will work closely with experienced engineers and production controllers, contributing to day-to-day operations across production monitoring, quality assurance, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Production:

  • Monitor processing parameters throughout the production cycle
  • Document and issue engineering change reports accurately and timeously
  • Set up and maintain production line standards
  • Monitor reject and scrap rates, ensuring targets are consistently met
  • Assist the Production Controller in planning and executing plant trials
  • Ensure all checklists are completed prior to the commencement of production runs

Quality:

  • Support the technical development team with the formulation and testing of new products
  • Conduct testing on all incoming raw materials in accordance with the FIFO system prior to plant use
  • Report production measurement results accurately via the SharePoint reporting system
  • Maintain compliance with all quality standards and requirements

Safety:

  • Uphold safe working conditions at all times
  • Apply and promote safe working practices across the production environment

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed National Diploma in Chemical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Strong academic track record
  • Excellent English communication skills — reading, writing, and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
