HRPT is recruiting on behalf of a client in the water treatment sector for a skilled and motivated Chemical Engineering Technician to join a dynamic technical team on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis. Based in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, this three-month contract offers hands-on field experience across multiple water treatment facilities, with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.

About the Role

As a Chemical Engineering Technician, you will play a vital support role in the day-to-day operations of water treatment plants. Your work will involve conducting water sampling and laboratory analysis in accordance with industry standards, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment such as pumps and valves, and ensuring that all activities meet safety and environmental compliance requirements.

This is a field-based role that requires regular travel between sites, including locations outside of Gauteng. You must be comfortable working independently, managing your time effectively across different sites, and contributing meaningfully to engineering and project teams when required.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for conducting water sampling and analysis in line with applicable industry standards; maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment including pumps, valves, and associated systems; ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations; recording and reporting operational and quality control data accurately; travelling between water treatment plant sites as required; and providing technical support to engineers and project teams.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Applicants must hold a Diploma or Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. A valid driver’s licence is essential, as is a willingness to travel for work including destinations outside the province. You must have proven experience in water sampling and laboratory procedures, practical knowledge of pump systems and general equipment maintenance, strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Contract Details

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract of three months’ duration, with the potential for extension based on performance. Competitive compensation is on offer.
