Purpose of the Role

The ICT Intern will provide desktop support services including the installation and maintenance of hardware and software applications, troubleshooting of operating systems, and basic repairs. This internship is designed to help the candidate grow professionally by gaining hands-on experience and mentorship within a structured IT framework.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Information Technology

Ideal Qualification

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology

Legal Requirement

• Must have a clean criminal record

Training and Knowledge Areas

• Standard Operating Systems
• Familiarity with IT Policies and Procedures
• Understanding of the ADvTECH IT Framework

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year working within a team environment (can include academic projects or part-time work)

Key Responsibilities

Level 1 Desktop Support:

• Collects user information (e.g. system names, error messages) to assess technical issues.
• Diagnoses basic IT problems and identifies user goals.
• Applies troubleshooting methods such as reinstallation of software using knowledge base tools.

Software Installation:

• Verifies system requirements before installation.
• Checks for existing software and system compatibility.
• Installs essential components, device drivers, plugins, and performs system configuration.
• Collaborates with IT management to activate and configure user accounts and software access.

Hardware Installation:

• Installs computer and related hardware as outlined in internal SOPs.
• Assists with hardware upgrades and basic diagnostics.

Learning & Development:

• Gains exposure to real-life user challenges in a fast-paced environment.
• Learns from experienced First and Second Line IT Managers.
• Builds technical and soft skills necessary for a professional IT career.
