Mintek, South Africa’s national mineral research organisation, invites applications from students for its Work Integrated Learning Programme (P1/P2) within the Biometallurgy Division. This opportunity is ideal for students who require practical work experience in order to fulfil their qualification requirements in engineering or applied sciences.
This programme is aimed at providing meaningful industry exposure and hands-on training under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced professionals. Students will gain valuable insight into research and development in the mineral and metallurgical sector, contributing to innovative and sustainable solutions in biometallurgy.
Minimum Requirements:
- Completion of S4/S5 level studies
- Excellent academic record with a minimum overall average of 60%

- Chemical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Analytical Chemistry
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Required:
- Computer literacy, specifically in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong numerical aptitude
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Programme Structure:
Successful candidates will be appointed on a fixed-term contract of 12 months. The programme is structured to align with university requirements for P1 and P2 experiential training. Participants will be involved in technical projects that address real industry challenges, allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge in a professional setting.

- Candidates must be able to secure their own accommodation near Mintek in Randburg.
- Candidates are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Mintek campus.
