About the Roles

The Department of Transport is currently recruiting twelve (12) Data Capturers across two categories to support its operational functions in districts including Sarah Baartman, Alfred Nzo, Chris Hani, and Head Office in King William’s Town (KWT).

These positions are critical to the Department’s ability to maintain accurate transport records, process public transport permits and operator licences, manage scholar transport beneficiary data, and ensure compliance with national transport legislation. Data Capturers serve as the backbone of the Department’s information management infrastructure, making these roles fundamental to effective service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

Receive source documents and accurately capture information into official databases, spreadsheets, and prescribed digital formats. Review and validate captured data to identify errors, omissions, or inconsistencies, and resolve discrepancies prior to final submission. Perform regular data backups and maintain up-to-date statistical registers to support reporting and compliance requirements. Maintain well-organised, secure physical and electronic filing systems in accordance with public service regulations. Provide relevant information and documentation to internal stakeholders and components as and when required. Uphold confidentiality, data integrity standards, and all applicable departmental policies throughout all data management activities.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for these positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

A Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate is the minimum qualification required. No previous work experience is mandatory; however, relevant exposure within an administrative or data management environment will be considered an advantage. A basic understanding of clerical and administrative procedures is expected. Computer literacy is essential, and the ability to capture data accurately and compile statistics will be a significant added advantage.


Remuneration and Benefits

Successful candidates will be appointed at salary Level 4, earning between R193 359 and R227 766 per annum, in line with the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) conditions of service. Additional public service benefits apply in accordance with applicable legislation and departmental policy.

Selection and Appointment

Skills and knowledge assessments may be conducted where applicable. Successful candidates will be placed on a 12-month probation period upon appointment.
