About the Role:

This training opportunity is designed for candidates who have completed the theoretical component (S4) of their National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering. As a Learner Electrical Technician, you will undergo comprehensive, hands-on training and participate in various technical projects and fieldwork. You will gain practical skills and experience that will serve as a strong foundation for your engineering career.

You will be based within the Technical Support Division, under the Sherq and Training Branch, and will report to the Manager (Engineering Training). This structured training will expose you to essential technical functions, with responsibilities ranging from electrical installations to energy management, and much more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and apply safe working procedures.
  • Use hand and power tools effectively.
  • Conduct fault-finding and participate in installation, maintenance, and operation of motors, generators, and control systems.
  • Gain knowledge of lighting and illumination systems.
  • Undertake various electrical installation and substation tasks.
  • Develop knowledge of energy management principles and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Participate in cable jointing, overhead line construction, and battery system management.
  • Learn the basics of welding for electrical maintenance applications.

Essential Requirements:

  • Completion of the theoretical component (S4) of a National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  • Successful completion of a departmental proficiency test

Working Conditions:

  • 40-hour work week over 5 days
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and standby when required
  • Flexibility to be transferred or relocated within the Unit’s various depots or divisions
  • Compliance with PPE requirements

Remuneration and Benefits:

  • Annual Salary: R221,348.60 – R287,333.14
