Gijima, a leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services company, is inviting applications from qualified and motivated individuals for the position of Service Desk Intern as part of their Internship Programme. This opportunity is based in Midrand, Gauteng, and is open to South African citizens who are eager to kick-start their careers in Information Technology.

Gijima is offering three internship positions in the Service Desk department, providing a platform for recent IT graduates to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment. The internship will run for a specified duration and aims to provide participants with essential knowledge, skills, and work exposure within the IT support and service management domain.

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements. Candidates should have completed a three-year tertiary qualification in Information Technology, which may include a Diploma, Degree, or a relevant certificate. It is essential that applicants are currently unemployed and not participating in any other learnership or internship programmes. Furthermore, candidates should not be enrolled in any tertiary institution at the time of application. Applicants must reside in Gauteng as relocation will not be considered. A valid driver’s license will be advantageous but not mandatory. The programme is open to individuals under the age of 35 by 31 August 2025, and preference will be given to African, Coloured, and Indian South African citizens.

Applicants must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, email communication, and internet usage. A clear criminal record is mandatory. The successful candidates will display a basic understanding of IT concepts such as Windows operating systems, Office 365, email troubleshooting, and internet connectivity. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a customer-focused mindset, analytical thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are crucial for this role.

The selected interns will gain exposure to IT service management systems and tools such as BMC Helix, Remedy, and YAXXA. Responsibilities include logging IT incidents and service requests under supervision, assisting in troubleshooting basic technical issues like password resets and connectivity problems, escalating unresolved issues to higher-level support, and maintaining clear and professional communication with end-users. Interns will also be involved in documenting solutions, updating user guides, assisting with service desk performance reports, and participating in training, mentorship, and job shadowing activities. A fundamental understanding of ITIL principles and a willingness to learn about IT service management is essential for this role.

This internship is designed to provide valuable industry exposure and the foundational skills necessary for a career in IT support.
