The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the position of Candidate Inspector within the Electrical Engineering discipline. The primary purpose of this role is to enforce and administer compulsory specifications and technical regulations on behalf of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition. The successful candidate will achieve this by monitoring and evaluating compliance with the relevant standards through detailed inspections and evaluations across regulated industries.

Key Performance Areas / Outputs:
Monitor and evaluate compliance with compulsory specifications and technical regulations applicable to electrical products and services
Implement and recommend appropriate sanctions for non-compliance, in accordance with relevant legislation and internal policies
Process applications for Letters of Authority (LOA), Sales Permits, and Certificates, ensuring accuracy and adherence to required procedures
Comply with and support the NRCS Quality Management System (QMS) in all activities
Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders including manufacturers, importers, and regulatory authorities
Participate in NRCS committees and contribute towards policy and process development

Minimum Requirements:
A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Electrical Engineering
Willingness to travel frequently, as required by operational demands
Commitment to undergo structured training for a period of 18 – 24 months

Knowledge and Skills:
Solid understanding of the NRCS Act, Legal Metrology Act, and related legislation including but not limited to: Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), Customs and Excise Act, Police Act, Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Consumer Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Road Traffic Act
Knowledge of SANS and ISO standards relevant to electrical products
Familiarity with inspection and evaluation methods
Competence in conducting risk assessments
Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Behavioural Competencies:
Strong report writing and documentation skills
Sound judgement and decision-making ability
Effective problem-solving and planning capabilities
High level of action orientation and the ability to work under tight deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
