Porcupine Union, a division within King Price Group, is offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven Junior Data Scientist to join its Data Analytics Business Unit. This is a permanent, entry-level role based at our Pretoria office, suited for an individual who is enthusiastic about innovation and committed to using data to solve real-world problems in the insurance sector.

Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this role is to enhance our current artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives while ensuring our data pipelines operate efficiently. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic data analytics team and play a key role in building intelligent data-driven solutions that contribute to strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain machine learning models in collaboration with the analytics team
• Manage and optimize data pipelines to support seamless and efficient data flow across systems
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver tailored data solutions
• Analyze large datasets to extract insights that guide business actions and improve performance
• Stay informed of the latest developments in data science, machine learning, and emerging technologies

Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a closely related field
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or R
• Exposure to machine learning frameworks and data science tools (real-world or academic projects considered)
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
• Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
• An evident passion for data innovation and continuous learning
