About the Role
As a Junior Operational Monitor, you’ll play a crucial role in maximizing the performance of our utility-scale wind and solar PV assets across South Africa. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and sustainability, contributing directly to the country’s renewable energy future.
Your primary responsibility will be real-time monitoring of our renewable energy assets through SCADA and remote monitoring systems. You’ll be the eyes and ears of our operations, identifying faults as they occur and working swiftly to minimize downtime. By maintaining accurate performance data and supporting our asset managers and performance engineers, you’ll help ensure our facilities operate at peak efficiency.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor & Analyze: Track generating unit status in real-time, identifying issues quickly to reduce mean time to repair (MTTR) and maximize energy production
- Data Management: Capture and validate all operational, maintenance, and performance data with precision and consistency
- Reporting: Update critical performance metrics, KPIs, monthly reports, board presentations, and regulatory submissions (NERSA, CTA)
- Technical Analysis: Investigate fault events, identify trends, and contribute insights to O&M meetings alongside technical personnel from wind and solar sites
- Continuous Improvement: Support the Performance Engineer in analyzing data to identify failure patterns and performance deviations
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications:
- National Diploma (T3/N6) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 1 year experience in utility-scale power plant operations or construction
- Strong understanding of Solar PV and wind operations
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with SCADA systems and remote monitoring platforms
- Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
- Excellent data capture and analysis abilities
- Strong technical writing and reporting capabilities
