What You’ll Be Doing
As part of the Energy Directorate within the Support Services Department, you’ll undergo a comprehensive apprenticeship programme in the heavy current electrical stream. You’ll work in the field, develop practical skills, and receive the mentorship and training needed to become a qualified electrician with the City of Cape Town.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking enthusiastic candidates who meet the following requirements:
Qualifications — you must hold one of the following:
- A minimum NTC 3 with subjects including Electrical Trade Theory, Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, or another heavy current subject, plus Matric
- A Technical Matric (Grade 12) including English, Electrical Trade Theory, Mathematics, Physical Science, and one additional subject
- A Full NCV Level 4 Electrical qualification (minimum 7 subjects)
Other Requirements:
- A genuine passion for the electrical field — this isn’t just a job, it’s a trade you must love
- Must currently reside within the City of Cape Town metropole
- A valid driver’s licence is advantageous — Code C1 (previously Code 10) is preferred
- Must not have already qualified in any trade prior to programme commencement
- Must not hold a National S Diploma or higher qualification
Please note: Candidates with medical conditions that may negatively impact participation in the Apprentice Programme — such as epilepsy or colour blindness — will unfortunately not be considered due to the nature of the work involved.
